Welcome to An Angel Walks Beside Me
If you are a newly grieving parent I send you all my love. I appreciate that each and every one of you are likely here under difficult circumstances and may be in very different places in your grief.
Grief is interesting because it has so many different dynamics. From my experience, I have found that each person experiences grief in very different ways even if they experience the identical same event. That probably shouldn't shock us because we are human. Unfortunately, until we are faced with this horrific situation none of us knows how we may react. As well, this is also the most difficult time in your life and the time that you most need the ones that are nearest and dearest to you. Sounds pretty simple, doesn't it.
Well, again from my experience grief is not a one-size-fits-all, therefore, it is a very individual process. This year, 2016, is the 30th anniversary of when my 3 beautiful daughters came into my life and then left shortly after their arrival. For decades I blamed myself, not for something I did because I followed every doctor's order, but for something I said. My mental health tormented me as I searched for answers. No one could give me the inner peace that I needed until I learned to forgive myself.
The people around me had no idea the toll that the deaths of my daughters had taken on my life. The real true toll. An Angel Walks Beside Me is dedicated to the memory of my daughters, Jana, Jessica, and Laura as the voice my daughters never had. The gift of my daughters was given to me and it is my hope to work with others because too many loved ones still do not know how to help parents years and years after the death when the pain doesn't stop.
In this reader-driven blog, I will explore topics that are often difficult for grieving parents and for the people that love them, to openly discuss. The communication needs to improve. All of our children are important to us, not just the living.
From my heart to yours,
be kind to yourself
